On a cruise ship, there are many places with a significant risk of injury. Most companies are spending a lot of money on adequate training to raise awareness about proper behavior and conduct to reduce the number of accidents. Still, there are thousands of injuries on cruise ships worldwide every day. Whenever the crew member steps on board the ship, there is much information about maintaining the safety level on an acceptable scale. 

In the company where I have spent nearly a decade, the bar steward position was one of the toughest jobs. There were two primary ways in which people got that kind of job on the cruise ship. Number one was by getting a job on the land through the agency. I don't know how much clarity and credibility the agency information provided to the candidates on the land for the bar steward job. However, the second way of getting the bar steward job was internally from the cruise ship company.

People come to work on cruise ships for many different reasons. Some to feed their adventurous spirit, others only for money, and some people join the cruise ships because they want something different in their lives. Others join the cruise ship because they need the challenge, career progression opportunity, or something else.

Everyone knows that the official language on board a cruise ship is English; however, there are many words that are used only by crew members. Some of these words come from the English, Spanish, Italian, Tagalog, and Balkan languages. If you've never worked on a cruise ship or heard these words before, you will certainly hear them if you embark on a cruise ship. Here is a list of the most frequently used words by the crew.

Keeping a healthy love relationship while working on the cruise ship is hard. I am not saying it’s impossible, but it's really hard. Maintenance of a healthy relationship, either from the perspective that your partner works on the same cruise company or your partner is at home, brings enormous challenges. It's hard to keep trust and loyalty and stick to your values. It is tough, but it's possible.

As a bartender, I have often witnessed what happens to the intoxicated workers on the ship. If someone was drunk in the bar and reported to the security officers, the outcome and consequences for that behavior depended mainly on the worker's position.
