Special Needs Family Harassed on Norwegian Getaway

Submitted by kgnadmin on

Mother with a special needs son and his friend were harassed on NCL cruise ship. Cate Hawkins says that her 7 day cruise on Norwegian Getaway turned into nightmare when two young men in the cabin next door started putting rude notes under her door, and placing dirty gloves on the door handle. She reported the harassment numerous times to security staff however they didn’t took this seriously and didn’t reacted in order to provide secure environment for her and the two children with special needs. Cate says NCL allowed the harassment to continue for four days and the hooligans continued to kick on the walls, play loud music, and damaged her cabin door. The harassment didn’t stop even after they switch the cabin as the cruel young men continued verbally harassing theme on the open deck.

Even a ride in the elevator was stressful, as she was afraid if they will encounter the harassers and be bullied.

Norwegian Cruise Line response was a $200 CAD onboard credit for each and an apology for the “noise” coming from the neighboring cabin.

“Please carefully consider taking your Special Needs children and young adults on Norwegian Cruise Lines. While we were fortunate that the two young men who harassed us did not go after my son and his friend, Norwegian Cruise Lines did not seem to care that this could potentially happen and cared little that we were being harassed. They do not care that we spent a stressful week protecting my special needs son and his special needs friend from potential harassment.” Says Cate.
