Two Passengers Medically Evacuated from Icon of the Seas

A medical evacuation took place aboard Royal Caribbean International cruise ship Icon of the Seas during its current Eastern Caribbean voyage, after two passengers experienced serious health issues at sea.

According to information from Diario Libre the incident happened early Monday morning while the ship was sailing through Dominican territorial waters near Puerto Plata, on its way toward St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The two women began experiencing pulmonary (lung-related) complications while onboard, prompting the ship’s medical team to request immediate assistance.

Once the alert was received, maritime authorities quickly activated emergency protocols. An interceptor boat was dispatched, and the evacuation was coordinated with the help of the Dominican Republic Navy, along with national emergency services.

The two passengers, accompanied by a family member, were safely transferred from the ship and taken to a nearby medical facility on land.

At the hospital, doctors evaluated and treated them for their pulmonary conditions. Officials later confirmed that both women responded well to treatment and were discharged after their condition improved.

At this time, no further details have been released about the exact nature of their illness.

So far, there is no indication that the evacuation caused significant disruption to the ship’s itinerary. The cruise continued as planned following the operation.
