Costa Favolosa Cancels Two Norway Calls Due to Forecast Rough Seas

Costa Favolosa has changed its Norwegian itinerary, canceling calls to Leknes and Bodø after forecasts warned of strong winds and very rough seas.

In a letter sent to guests on October 12, 2026, Captain Valentino Savarese explained that the ship would begin sailing south earlier than planned to protect the safety of passengers and crew.

The notice said the ship’s team had been monitoring weather forecasts and expected sea conditions in coordination with Costa’s fleet operations center. Strong southerly winds were forecast around Leknes and Bodø, with conditions also potentially affecting the passage toward Leknes.

After reviewing the forecasts and possible alternatives, Costa decided to adjust the route. The captain stressed that weather and sea conditions in Northern Europe can change quickly, particularly during autumn.

Overnight Stay in Trondheim

The revised itinerary includes an overnight visit to Trondheim, giving guests more time to explore the city. Costa Favolosa is scheduled to arrive at 9 p.m. on October 13 and depart at 11 p.m. on October 14.

Following a day at sea on October 15, the ship will call at Haugesund on October 16 and Kristiansand on October 17.

Date Destination Arrival Departure
October 13–14 Trondheim 9 p.m. on October 13 11 p.m. on October 14
October 15 At sea — —
October 16 Haugesund 7 a.m. 6 p.m.
October 17 Kristiansand 10:30 a.m. 7 p.m.

The schedule for October 18 remains unchanged. All arrival and departure times are subject to weather, sea and port conditions.

Onboard Credit and Excursion Refunds

To acknowledge the disruption, Costa is offering €100 in onboard credit per guest, limited to two guests per cabin.

The letter states that the credit can cover onboard purchases and services, including shops, spa treatments, specialty restaurants and the hotel service charge. The applicable amount will be deducted from the final onboard bill, and any unused balance will be refunded.

All Costa excursions booked for Leknes and Bodø will be canceled automatically. Guests will receive refunds through the payment method used for the original purchase.

The ship’s My Tours Office on Deck 3 will help passengers explore excursion options in Trondheim, Haugesund and Kristiansand.

Captain Savarese thanked guests for their understanding and said the revised route was intended to allow the cruise to continue safely while still offering opportunities to visit Norwegian destinations.
