A new cruise line catering to the French market is on the horizon with the purchase of the MS Aegean Myth
The sale of the former Holland America Line cruise ship MS Maasdam which was acquired by the Greek shipping magnate Marios Iliopoulos back in July 2020, and renamed Aegean Myth, was announced today.
The vessel was bought by the Greek ferry company SeaJets at the height of the pandemic for 10$ million and sold to the French start-up cruise line CFC - Compagnie Francaise De Croisieres for 30$ million.
The new cruise company was registered this year. According to the filed documents the new owner is the French company CFC HoldCo. with Clément Mousset serving as President of the company and Cedric Rivoire-Perrochat as Managing Director.
With 25 years in the cruise industry, Clément Mousset has a wealth of experience in the sector. Most recently he held the position of General Manager for France at Cruise & Maritime Voyages. After the CMV filed for bankruptcy, Mr. Mousset served as a consultant for several cruise companies.
The 55,575 gross tonnage cruise liner built in 1993, has a capacity for 1,258 passengers. The vessel will most probably be refurbished and renamed before entering service for the new cruise line. CFC - Compagnie Francaise De Croisieres has not revealed when the ship will start cruising or the itineraries.
During the pandemic, SeaJets acquired five more cruise ships at bargain prices from Carnival Corp and Royal Caribbean Group. These ships will probably find new commercial buyers in the coming year, are docked in Aigios and Piraeus under the care of Piraeus-based Optimum Shipmanagement.
