On November 20, 2023, Mein Schiff 5 arrived in Dubai, for e dry dock refurbishment. As the ship completes the first of two positioning trips from the Mediterranean to Asia, a twelve-day stay in the shipyard awaits in Dubai. This dry dock period includes not only routine maintenance and enhancements in the guest’s areas but also installation of shore power connectivity.
Public areas will be revitalized after years of continuous cruise operation, ensuring a fresh atmosphere for future passengers. One of the significant advantages of dry dock is the accessibility it provides to the entire hull, allowing for the renewal of the hull paint, and safeguarding the ship against the harsh marine environment.
The highlight of Mein Schiff 5's dry dock in Dubai is the integration of shore power connectivity. Following in the footsteps of Mein Schiff 1, Mein Schiff 4, and Mein Schiff 6, Mein Schiff 5 is set to become the fourth ship in the Mein Schiff fleet equipped with shore power system.
The shore power connection will allow Mein Schiff 5 to plug into onshore electrical grids while in port, significantly reducing its reliance on onboard generators. This technology aims to facilitate almost emission-free ship operation during port stays.
Mein Schiff 5 is scheduled to return to guest operations on December 3, 2023, embarking on a 17-day cruise from Dubai to Singapore. As Mein Schiff 5 resumes its passenger operations, plans are already in place for further shipyard stays in Dubai in the coming years. The commitment to sustainability extends beyond Mein Schiff 5, with Mein Schiff aiming to equip the entire fleet with shore power connections.
