Norwegian Sun has canceled its scheduled visit to Sydney, Nova Scotia, after adverse weather slowed the ship’s progress during its Atlantic crossing.
In a letter sent to guests on October 19, Captain Teo Radun informed guests that the ship would skip its October 21 call and sail directly to Halifax. The revised itinerary replaces Sydney with another day at sea.
Norwegian Sun is now expected to arrive in Halifax at 8:30 a.m. on October 22, instead of the originally scheduled 10 a.m. arrival. Departure remains at 7 p.m., giving passengers an additional 90 minutes to explore the Canadian port.
The captain acknowledged that many guests had been looking forward to visiting Sydney and apologized for the disruption. The letter also reassured passengers that there were no safety concerns for guests or crew, adding that the team would continue monitoring weather conditions on the way to Halifax.
All Sydney shore excursions booked through Norwegian Cruise Line have been automatically canceled. Guests will receive full refunds credited to their onboard accounts, with no action required. Those interested in booking excursions in Halifax were directed to the Shore Excursions Desk on Deck 5.
Norwegian Sun departed on October 12, from Southampton, with stops to Le Havre, Cobh and Belfast before crossing the Atlantic. Following Halifax and another sea day, Norwegian Sun remains scheduled to arrive in New York City at 7 a.m. on October 24.
