Norwegian Cruise Line celebrated the float out of the Norwegian Viva, the second of six ships in its Prima Class, from its dry dock at Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera (Venice), Italy. The landmark is important in construction and represents the first time a vessel touches water.
To celebrate the occasion, a commemorative coin was welded onto the ship in a traditional maritime ceremony, performed by Norwegian Cruise Line President and Chief Executive Officer Harry Sommer and Fincantieri Shipyard Director Antonio Quintano.
The float signifies the completion of Norwegian Viva's exterior work and painting, including hull art designed by Italian graffiti artist Manuel Di Rita, known as "Peeta".
Construction now continues on the ship's interior fittings and guest accommodations, before it is officially handed over to the cruise line and begins sailing in 2023.
“Norwegian Viva's float has been highly anticipated and is a proud day for all of us. She is our nineteenth ship and second in our Prima Class. With Norwegian Viva's name meaning 'Be Alive' and her motto being 'Enjoy Life', we can't wait to put this into practice and soon welcome guests aboard for the vacation of a lifetime,” said Sommer.
