Royal Caribbean Announced Partnership with The World Wildlife Fund

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. announced today a five-year partnership with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to ensure the long-term health of the oceans.

This partnership was announced at an event in Donsol, Sorsogon, Philippines. At the event, Royal Caribbean also made a $200,000 donation for conservation programs supported by WWF Philippines in Donsol.

Royal Caribbean will set achievable and measurable sustainability goals to reduce RCL cruise ships environmental footprint, raising awareness about oceans conservation among the company’s guests, and support World Wildlife Fund global oceans conservation involvement.

The targets focus on emissions reductions and supply chain sustainability through 2020. The two parties will work together to develop targets directed for strengthening the company’s sustainable sourcing strategy and sustainable tour operations.

RCL and WWF developed new environmental sustainability targets by the year 2020 that include:

Carbon Emissions Target:

35% Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2020.

Sustainable Seafood 2020 Target

Responsibly source 90 percent of wild-caught seafood from certified MSC sustainable fisheries. 

In Europe and North America operations, source 75 percent of its farmed seafood by volume from certified ASC responsible farms.

BY June 30, 2016, Royal Caribbean Cruises will set traceability goals with targets to obtain ASC and MSC chain of custody.

In addition, WWF and RCL have agreed to incorporate new targets by June 30 addressing destination stewardship.
