A 53-year-old Italian crew member was medically evacuated from Costa Deliziosa on October 31 after suffering a cardiac emergency shortly after the cruise ship departed Trieste.
The ship was approximately five nautical miles off the coast when the emergency prompted a rescue operation coordinated by the Trieste Coast Guard. Local reports identified the crew member’s condition as cardiac ischemia.
After receiving the request for assistance, the Coast Guard’s operations room contacted the ship’s doctor to assess the situation and arrange the transfer ashore.
The doctor approved the evacuation and offered to accompany the crew member aboard the rescue boat until he could be handed over to emergency medical personnel. Patrol boat CP 2084 was immediately dispatched, while an ambulance was arranged to meet the vessel at the Coast Guard dock.
The crew member was stabilized and brought ashore, where Italy’s 118 emergency medical team was waiting. According to TriestePrima, he was subsequently transported to Cattinara Hospital in Trieste.
The reports did not provide a further update on his condition.
Costa Deliziosa departed at the start of a seven-night Eastern Mediterranean cruise, scheduled to return to Trieste on November 7. The itinerary includes calls at Bari, Corfu, Syracuse, Valletta and Split, with a day at sea between Malta and Croatia.
