Crew Member Passes Away On Norwegian Breakaway

Crew Center has received sad news coming from the Norwegian Breakaway, where a crew member has passed away.

Several crew members confirmed to Crew Center that the crew member who passed away was a 40-year-old Filipino national working as a waiter. He died yesterday while the ship was in operation. The crew member leaves behind a wife and two young children, making the loss even more heartbreaking for those who knew him both professionally and personally. Out of respect for his family and friends, his name will not be released.

According to fellow crew, the death is believed to have been caused by a heart attack, although this has not been officially confirmed.

The loss has deeply affected colleagues who knew and worked alongside him. One crew member, who asked to remain anonymous, shared that the two had worked together closely:

“He was my work buddy… I still can’t believe it. I know how much he loved his family, especially his kids. Even now, my tears are falling just thinking of it.”

Others onboard described him as a dedicated and hardworking individual, well-liked by guests and colleagues alike. Several also pointed to the demanding nature of shipboard life, particularly in the restaurant department, where long hours and intense schedules are common.

“Sometimes we work multiple shifts in one day and then open again the next morning,” one crew member shared. “He was a good worker, always good with guests.”

This is not the first time tragedy has struck crew members connected to this ship and its sister vessels, recalling previous loss within the same department in past years. Two years ago another Filipino crew member Restie Ulbenario, who was working as a waitress has died on the Norwegian Cruise Line ship.

At this time, there has been no official statement released regarding the incident.

Crew Center extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues affected by this loss. In moments like these, we as community are reminded of the human stories behind the ship life and the families waiting at home.
