Ammonia leak stops cruise passengers boarding on Seabourn Encore

The passengers boarding was interrupted on the cruise ship Seabourn Encore in Picton, New Zealand after a strange gas smell was noticed by the Port Marlborough authorities.  At the quayside of Port Marlborough, staff at the refrigeration plant had detected an ammonia leak by one of the refrigeration units. The terminal was then closed for about an hour, as well as Seabourn Encore, which was in the immediate vicinity.

The latest ultra-luxury Seabourn cruise ship, Seabourn Encore was damaged yesterday, February 12, after collided with another vessel docked in the port of Timaru, New Zealand. Due to strong winds mooring lines failed and the cruise ship started to move away from the harbor and finally collided with a cement carrier vessel. Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident. Tug boats held the two ships in position to prevent further damage.

Crew Member Injured on a Storm Battered Ship in the Baltic Sea

On the night of January 11, in the Baltic Sea, a passenger cruise ferry operated by Tallink, was hit by a raging storm with waves up to 7-8 meters. According to the Finnish weather service the maximum, measured wave reached 14 meters, which is highest recorded wave in the Baltic Sea. The 2,480 passenger capacity ship Tallink Isabelle, was on its way from Riga to Stockholm when it experienced the storm.

Grand Princess hull damaged by faulty platform

A damage to the hull caused by faulty tender platform forced the cruise ship Grand Princess to return back to Honolulu. According to Princess Cruise Line statement, the platform on the starboard side has opened, for reasons yet unknown, while the vessel was departing from Honolulu, Hawaii. As a result the ship’s hull sustained minor damage which has been secured. Grand Princess Captain confirmed that the ship is safe and has turned around to make an assessment in daylight. 

Thomson Spirit runs aground in Portimao, Portugal

The cruise ship Thomson Spirit, with over 1,000 passengers on board, ran aground in the middle of the Arade River in Portugal on Tuesday. The ship operated by the British cruise line Thomson Cruises blocked the river for an hour and a half, after the Captain was forced to abort the docking maneuvers. Thomson Spirit was scheduled to arrive in the port of Portimão at 8:00 a.m. entering the river at low tide.

Pacific Princess Hits Breakwater in Nice

Pacific Princess Compartment Number 2 experienced flooding this morning as the cruise ship tried to dock in the port of Nice, France. The vessel encountered strong winds of 45 knots, which caused Pacific Princess to hit the breakwaters at the dock. Port side of the ship was slightly damaged by the impact. Firefighters and divers responded to the scene and will remain if further assistance is needed.
