Norwegian Cruise Line christened its newest Prima Plus-class vessel, Norwegian Aqua, at PortMiami, with Emmy Award-winning actor Eric Stonestreet serving as the ship’s ceremonial godfather. The event showcased not only the brand’s latest hardware innovation but also signaled upcoming enhancements to Great Stirrup Cay, NCL’s private island destination in the Bahamas.

The christening featured a live performance of “Revolution: A Celebration of Prince”, followed by remarks from NCL President David J. Herrera, who provided a forward-looking overview of the company’s destination development strategy.

Enhancements to Great Stirrup Cay, scheduled for completion in late 2025, are set to elevate the guest experience with the addition of:
•    A new resort-style pool complex, including a full-service bar and children’s splash zone
•    A modernized welcome center
•    An expanded tram network to facilitate seamless transportation around the island
•    A premium adults-only Vibe Beach Club
•    A new Horizon Park recreational space designed for multi-generational appeal

“These upgrades reinforce our commitment to delivering curated experiences both at sea and ashore,” Herrera noted. “Norwegian Aqua exemplifies the next evolution of our product—immersive, versatile, and tailored to modern cruisers. And with Great Stirrup Cay’s transformation, we’re doubling down on creating memorable destinations aligned with our ‘Experience More at Sea’ philosophy.”

The event concluded with the traditional bottle-breaking ceremony, as Stonestreet christened the ship to officially bless her future voyages.

Norwegian Aqua will begin operations with seven-day Eastern Caribbean itineraries, calling at key ports including the Dominican Republic and British Virgin Islands. The ship will later reposition for sailings from both New York City and Miami, extending its deployment reach into diverse source markets.
