The food prepared on board the Costa cruise ships not served to the guests from now on will be distributed to the ones who need it the most. The Spanish organization “Banc dels Aliments” and Costa Cruises signed an agreement for the food surplus to be distributed, among different NGOs in Barcelona.
Around midnight on November 20, the Italian cruise ship Costa Luminosa, sailing to the port of Katakolo, Greece received a request for intervention by the Greek Coast Guard Center in Piraeus. Carnival Corporation announced today the signing of a joint venture with China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), leading to a new cruise line named “CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping Limited”. Starting this year Costa Cruises will reduce food waste on board its cruise ships by 50%. The program named "4GOODFOOD" developed with cooperation by University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo and Winnow, was already tested onboard Costa Diadema in 2016. The results during the trial period of 11 months have shown a reduction of food waste by over 50%, which is equivalent to a reduction of 1,189 tons of CO2, or the emissions of 231 cars in a year.
Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line has announced that a second cruise ship will join its fleet in April 2018. Costa neoClassica, currently sailing under Costa Cruises banner will be transferred and renamed to Grand Classica, increasing the offer of two-night mini cruises to the Island of Grand Bahama.
