Wind Surf Heads to Dry Dock for Final Phase of $7.5 Million Refurbishment

Windstar Cruises sailing yacht Wind Surf is preparing to enter dry dock for the concluding phase of an extensive refurbishment program, with the vessel scheduled to resume service on December 19, 2026.

The work forms part of Windstar’s multi-year “Setting Sails” fleet-renewal initiative. Wind Surf’s two-phase renovation represents an investment of approximately $7.5 million, according to the cruise line.

During the forthcoming phase, the remaining accommodations will receive new furnishings, bedding, carpeting, interactive televisions, artwork and decorative elements. The Veranda restaurant and Amphora dining room will also be refreshed.

One of the more significant changes will be the replacement of Stella Bistro with Basil + Bamboo, a restaurant concept combining Mediterranean and Asian influences. The fitness center will gain a redesigned layout and motion studio, while the existing cigar lounge will be converted into a dry sauna.

Two additional cabins are also expected to increase the yacht’s passenger capacity from 342 to 346. The first phase of the project, completed in November 2024, included work on the vessel’s suites and several public spaces. The refurbishment is being undertaken at the Navantia shipyard in Cádiz, Spain.

While much of the work concerns guest-facing areas, a refurbishment of this scale also creates a demanding transition for the ship’s crew. Hotel and technical teams must recommission renovated spaces, test equipment, receive supplies and become familiar with new restaurant and wellness operations before passengers return.

Wind Surf remains one of the world’s largest sailing passenger vessels, operating with five masts and seven sails while carrying fewer than 350 guests.
