Carnival Splendor arrives in Sydney Harbour to kick-off Australia cruise season

After a 23-day Trans-Pacific voyage Carnival Splendor arrived in Sydney Harbour. The ship was welcomed into the country with a special escort by sister brand P&O Cruises Australia's Pacific Adventure before sailing past the Sydney Opera House and arriving in port. Her arrival marks the first cruise ship to enter Australian waters carrying international passengers in nearly three years.

Carnival Cruise Line has announced that Kathie Lee Gifford's daughter, actress Cassidy Gifford, will serve as godmother of its newest ship, Carnival Celebration. Kathie was surprised by the news from her mother, who was the godmother of Carnival Celebration's namesake, the MS Celebration, christened in 1987. Her mother has been a spokesperson for Carnival in the company's TV campaigns since the 80s, which were the first such networks to broadcast commercials for the cruise industry.
