Crew member airlifted from Norwegian Getaway

The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a 41-year-old crew member on Monday from the Norwegian Cruise Line ship, Norwegian Getaway. The cruise ship departed from Miami on April 15, and was sailing to Costa Maya when the medical emergency was requested.

Heavy fog that lasted for days at the port of Shanghai has forced several ships to cancel their voyages including the cruise ship Norwegian Joy. According to the local media, after passengers have embarked on March 27 onboard the Norwegian Cruise Line ship, specially dedicated to the Chinese market, they were informed that the voyage is canceled. Following this announcement, hundreds of passengers took to the ship’s guest relations desk to protest.

Miraculous Rescue by Norwegian Epic Crew

A passenger on board the Norwegian Cruise Line ship, Norwegian Epic, was rescued after going overboard on Tuesday night, as the vessel sailed near the Bahamas. NCL has confirmed the incident saying that a female guest went over the rail and into the ocean. Crew rescue teams immediately responded to the emergency and lowered a life boat to search for the missing passenger around the ship.

The fourth member of the Norwegian Cruise Line Breakaway Plus family will be called Norwegian Encore. This was announced today by Andy Stuart, president and chief executive officer for Norwegian Cruise Line, during the steel-cutting at Meyer-Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. With 169,000 tones, 333.5 meters long and 41.5 meters wide, Encore will be able to carry up to 3,998 passengers.
