WASHINGTON, Sept. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Captain Gaetano Gigliotti and the crew of the cruise ship Carnival Elation have been recognized with the Cruise Line Humanitarian Assistance Award from the Association for Rescue at Sea (AFRAS), an organization whose mission is to provide worldwide support and assistance to volunteer maritime rescue services and recognize and honor extraordinary maritime rescues.

The three fishermen who were rescued by the cruise ship Pacific Princess after their boat sunk on August 25, sent a thank you letter praising the ship’s crew.

The U.S. Coast Guard conducted medical evacuation of a crew member from the cruise ship Celebrity Summit approximately 230 miles off the coast of New Jersey, Monday afternoon.

The vessel was heading back to the port of Dover after an eight-day voyage to the British Isles when an S.O.S. signal was sent to rescue the men, who were floating in a small life raft.

A 46-year-old British woman was rescued after falling from the cruise ship Norwegian Star off the coast of Croatia, the country's coastguard reported. Croatian Coast Guard said the woman identified as Kay Longstaff was rescued 10 hours after falling into the Adriatic Sea some 45 nautical miles offshore - around 11.45 pm on Saturday.

A Filipino crew member working onboard Holland America Line cruise ship ms Amsterdam was reported missing. The 35-year-old man was last seen on Thursday at around 6 p.m. while the ship was sailing Sitka Sound, Alaska. His disappearance was reported at 7:45 p.m. by the crew after he did not show up for a work shift. The crew made extensive searches onboard the vessel of all public areas and facilities but they couldn’t find the missing man.

A crew member on board the Cunard’s ocean liner Queen Mary 2 was evacuated due to a medical emergency and transported to a hospital on Friday evening.

The Italian Coast Guard performed a rescue operation on Tuesday morning near Porto Torres, Sardinia, and made safe transshipment for medical evacuation of a 28-year-old Brazilian crewmember. The medical assistance was requested by the cruise ship Pullmantur Sovereign after a male crew member suffered an acute attack of appendicitis and needed urgent transfer to hospital.

The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a 41-year-old crew member on Monday from the Norwegian Cruise Line ship, Norwegian Getaway. The cruise ship departed from Miami on April 15, and was sailing to Costa Maya when the medical emergency was requested.

Celebrity Infinity crew member was airlifted on Friday after suffering a heart attack on board while the vessel was sailing to Puerto Williams, Chile. Ship’s captain notified the authorities and requested emergency medical evacuation.
