Cruise Ship Crew Members Stranded at Istanbul Airport Recount Military Coup

Following the military coup there was absolute chaos at Istanbul International airport. Thousands of passengers were stranded after all flights have been canceled. Among the stranded passengers were crew members working on cruise ship. Some of the stranded crew members were waiting to catch connecting flights to get back home, others to return to cruise ship for another contract.

The star of the 90s TV show Baywatch,  David Hasselhoff,  will be the Captain for this year’s floating party festival “It’s the Ship” on Royal Caribbean cruise ship Mariner of the Seas. Best known for playing the role of the sexy lifeguard Mitch Buchannon on Baywatch, and Kinght Rider, David Hasselhoff will be host on the third edition of Asia’s largest EDM festival at sea.

Costa Diadema Cruise Ship Welcomes Pepper, the Humanoid Robot

Genoa, 12 July 2016 – Onboard Costa Diadema, flagship of the Costa Cruises fleet, was presented Pepper, the first robot in the world able to recognize main human emotions and proactively interact with the surrounding environment. Starting from today, five Pe pper robots will be operative on all 7-day cruises of the Costa’s flagship in the Western Mediterraneean: their task will be to entertain guests, making their on board experience even more unique and unforgettable.

NCL Plans to Send Norwegian Sky to Cuba

“I’m literally waiting for the phone to ring to give the final approval. Operations are imminent when we receive the green light. ” Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings CEO Frank Del Rio said yesterday in a press briefing. Mr. Del Rio expects approval and permission from the authorities in Havana, in order for NCLH brands to begin cruises to Cuba. Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings hopes to set sail to Cuba as early as November 2016.

Port Canaveral terminal briefly evacuated over suspicious package

Port Canaveral was reopened for cruise ship passengers after a suspicious bag raised the alarm of the port authorities on Saturday July 9. The U.S. Coast Guard released the following statement on their Twitter account at around 2 p.m. “#BreakingNews @USCGSoutheast sets security zone around Port Canaveral after report of suspicious package.” 

Crew Member Suffers Muriatic Acid Poisoning on Cruise Ship

Port Authorities in Civitavecchia, Italy, received distress call from the cruise ship Sovereign operated by Pullmantur Cruises. The emergency involved a Filipino crew member who suffered serious poisoning because of the accidental ingestion of chemical (muriatic acid) usually used for cleaning and disinfection of swimming pools. The incident happened last night at around 10p.m. just hours after Sovereign left the port of Civitavecchia.

On Wednesday, Italian court sentenced a cruise ship crew member to ten months' imprison for sexual assault on a 17 year old girl. NuovaVenezia reports that the assault happened three years ago during an Adriatic cruise on the ship Costa Fascionsa.

Cruise Ship Passengers Join Running of the Bulls Festival

More than a hundred cruise ship passengers from two cruise ships will participate in the Running of the Bulls festival in Pamplona. On July 7, 2016, 75 passengers from the cruise ship Celebrity Constellation operated by Celebrity Cruises, docked in Bilbao will come by buses to participate in this unusual festival. From the balconies or in the square, they will enjoy the festival with organized tour. A similar tour has been prepared by the tourist operator for two groups of 25 people who will arrive on 13 and 14, on the cruise ship The Word, docked in Hendaya.

Princess Cruises 1st Cruise Line to Cross the New Panama Canal

Princess Cruises will be the first, and so far the only, cruise company to cross the new Panama Canal. The company has already included this in their new transit routes through the Pacific, Atlantic and Caribbean. The Caribbean Princess with capacity of 3,080 passengers will operate using the new Atlantic locks in its premiere from the end of 2017. This experience will be part of a 10-day cruise through the Panama Canal from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The new routes will make their debut in the 2017-18 winter season.
