AIDA Cruises Appoints Christian Reuther Vice President For Entertainment

Christian Reuther (43) will take over the new position of Vice President of Entertainment for AIDA Cruises on October 1, 2022. In his new position, Reuther has overall responsibility for the strategic development of entertainment on board the AIDA fleet.

 In the newly created position, Christian Reuther will report to Steffi Heinicke, Senior Vice President Guest Experience.

Coast Guard Medevacs Indian Crew Member from MSC Seaside

A Coast Guard aircrew evacuated a crew member from the cruise ship MSC Seaside while the vessel was sailing 30 miles from Capo Teulada, Italy.

According to reports, an Indian sailor needed urgent medical attention on land, and the captain alerted the Port Authority in Cagliari requesting an emergency medical evacuation.

Royal Caribbean increases daily crew gratuity rate

Starting September 7, 2022, Royal Caribbean International will increase the onboard gratuities that guests will pay for the service they receive from crewmembers.

Gratuities for guests occupying standard cabins (Junior Suites and below) range from $14.50 to $16.00 per day per person. The previous Suite gratuity rate of $17.50 will increase to $18.50 per day per person.

MSC Cruises Updates Winter Season Sailings

MSC Cruises has announced some changes for the winter 2022-2023 cruise season. MSC Virtuosa will replace MSC Preziosa in Hamburg and take over cruises to Rotterdam, Zeebrugge, Le Havre and Southampton. 

Sailing starts on Sundays at the Steinwerder Cruise Center in Hamburg. Meanwhile, MSC Virtuosa will sail the metropolitan route in direct competition with AIDAprima.

Fred Olsen Jr. resigns as a chairman of Fred Olsen Cruise Lines

Fred Olsen Cruise Lines has confirmed that its chairman has resigned from his position and from the company's board.

Chief Executive Peter Deere said Fred Olsen Junior resigned in July, after 35 years in the cruise industry. Mr Deere expressed gratitude to Olsen Jr. for "his support and long service to our company."

Celebrity Cruises Starts No Masks Pilot Program For Selected Crew

Celebrity Cruise has rolled out a pilot program on one of its ships to test the masks-free policy on selected crew. All nonguest facing crew will be mask free for a duration of two weeks, and if the results are promising this will lead to even more relaxed protocols across the fleet. In order to get more results the cruise line plans to add a second ship to the pilot program in the coming days.

Brodosplit Signs $1.5 Billion Contract to Build Residence Cruise Ship

Brodosplit has signed a $1.5 billion contract with Storylines for a new build residence cruise ship set for delivery in 2025.

The Croatian shipyard will build the 232.5-meter-long ship Narrative in the City of Split, which, as stated in the announcement, will be the first fully ecologically sustainable LNG-powered ship.
