Princess Cruises has announced the opening team of senior officers for the newest ship Discovery Princess set to debute in spring 2022. Once the ship is completed by the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, Captain Gennaro Arma will officially bring the ship into service from the shipyard in Monfalcone. 

Royal Caribbean International cruise ship Serenade of the Seas kicked off the Alaska season as the first ship to sail to the Last Frontier since September 2019. The highly anticipated 7-night cruise departing from Seattle on July 19, marks a celebratory moment for the cruise industry, local economy, and Alaska’s communities that were significantly impacted by the absence of the cruise ships. Currently, the ship is sailing with 97% fully vaccinated passengers and crew.

A 26-year-old Indonesian woman part of the crew of Mein Schiff 4 tested positive for Covid-19 and nine crew are in quarantine during the last days of the cruise. The young woman who had symptoms of the virus tested positive on swab test and disembarked the cruise ship in Salerno, Italy where she was admitted to “Mauro Scarlato” hospital in Scafati, fortunately in good health.

Today is another step towards a healthy return to service and the big comeback of Azamara as the crew get vaccinated for COVID-19 in Glasgow, Scotland. The crew on all three Azamara ships docked at King George V Dock received Johnson & Johnson single-shot COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccination was organized onboard the ships. 

Following the successful restart of operations with the Carnival Horizon, Carnival Vista and Carnival Breeze, Carnival Cruise Line announced today seven more ships will resume cruises by the end of October this year.

A 25-year-old man was rescued from drowning thanks to the lifeguards and Cyprus port police after he attempted to swim towards one of the cruise ships anchored off the coast of Pyrgos. According to the photo posted by the lifeguards the young man attempt to swim towards Seabourn Sojourn.

Fred. Olsen cruise ship Borealis will not be able to set sail today after the vessel experienced technical issue, the cruise line said.

"We recently upgraded our onboard technology, and although in our sea trials this worked perfectly, we have since identified a potential issue which we are working hard to resolve," the company said in a statement on social media.

Port of Civitavecchia started to coordinate COVID-19 vaccine distribution to cruise ship crew members which will be able to get vaccinated directly on board. Around 10.000 crew are expected to be vaccinated in the following weeks, thanks to the Lazio Region, the Port System Authority of the Central Northern Tyrrhenian Sea, Asl Roma 4 and Usmaf.
